"Living in the Western World" achieved great success upon his release in 1988 by winning the BASF Awards in 1989 as 'Best Album'. Fariz RM called this album his "magnum opus".

In a format similar to the previous album ("Do Not Erase", also available here on Bandcamp), this album contains five Indonesian songs and five English songs arranged alternately. The song "Iman Dan Godaan", a duet song with the great, late Dian Pramana Poetra, is the opening song of the album. The next song, titled "Barcelona", was inspired from Fariz trip in the city of Barcelona, ​​Spain and it became since one of his most famous songs.

The album "Living in the Western World" ranked 71st in the list of "150 Best Indonesian Albums" all-time by Rolling Stone Indonesia magazine, published in the issue # 32, December 2007. The second song from the album, "Barcelona", was ranked 23rd in the list of "150 Best Indonesian Songs" all-time published in the issue # 56, December 2009 by the same magazine.
